Guy Strauss: WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT LOVE - A Work Concerning RAYMOND CARVER & TESS GALLAGHER
Guy Strauss, Founder of Payomet Performing Arts Center In Truro, and member of AEA, SAG and AFTRA, brings back his one-man program WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT LOVE. Admission is $10 p.p., payable at the door. Space is limited, so reservations are recommended, at 508.237.0059.
The show, conceived and performed by Strauss, is drawn solely from the works and words of Raymond Carver, his poetry, short stories, essays and interviews, and those of his widow, poet and author Tess Gallagher. It explores Carver's artistry with all his humor, pathos, hope and love of his characters, his audience and his partner.
The Library of America volume of collected stories which was just published, says: Raymond Carver's spare dramas of loneliness, despair and troubled relationships breathed new life into the American short story of the 1970's and 80's - Carver writes with unflinching exactness about men and women enduring lives on the knife-edge - Suggestive rather than explicit, and seeming all the more powerful for what is left unsaid - Carver's stories were brilliant in their detachment and use of the oblique, ambiguous gesture...
Carver is America's Chekhov --London Times
He didn't flinch, and his characters stare without blinking -- Gary Fiskejon
The program is presented under a special arrangement with Actors‚ Equity Association, One-Person Show Contract.
