Sway:

Un-mown grasses sway

in response to the rhythm of the wind

No Sway:

When breezes flow over mown lawns.

In presenting these portraits of un-mown grass, I hope to invoke the absurdity of mowing lawns, while introducing the viewer to the unorthodox notion that workable alternatives to maintaining lawns do exist.

Americans spend in excess of $40,000,000.00 per year maintaining their lawns. Riches spent in a pointless effort to prevent a plant, namely grass, from going to seed.

Virginia Luppino

I am a photographer and landscape designer.

Since 1980 or so I have been looking closely at the landscape and closer still at the plants that inhabit the landscape... in a somewhat, ahem, obsessive manner.

Year after year, never tiring of the diversity to be found...I observe the life cycle of plants in places both wild and cultivated; in meadows, woodlands and coastal areas...engaging in a sort of documentary portraiture of plants.

My photographs have been widely exhibited throughout New York's Hudson Valley in both solo and group exhibitions.
