Lorrie Fredette

July 31 - August 12, 2009
Opening Friday, July 31, 6-8pm

My work explores the misrepresentation of information and the ways these distortions are presented. I am interested in how information becomes altered over time, specifically, what is the source or source material, the intricacies of how the information changes and, then, its latest presentation. My work is about exaggeration; I use presumably reliable biological specimen, statistical data, social systems, diseases and current events as a point of departure. Through continually combining this reference material, I make diagrams, drawings and hand-made objects. Each incarnation is a different version of an initial truth that has been liberally mixed and altered demonstrating how we continually adjust facts and create fiction. The end result is new information that has been made beautiful and reintroduced as another account for closer inspection. -- Lorrie Fredette
