Statement:
A first gesture: a line, a shape, a color, a cut. This unconscious move begins a piece. Where it originates is a mystery: the mind, memory, a nerve impulse.
For me to let these gestures be and my response to this being is my entrance into the work. Elements sturdy enough to withstand my questioning their existence remain and relationships are built.
Abstract or figurative, there are flows and patterns, energies and connections at work behind the scenes. As if the unseen dynamics that lie within all things are wanting to be known, acknowledged.
My urge to work is the desire to give form, to make visible these forces. --Lisa Ventre
