Michael Guy: PaintingsA Colorado native who graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1975 in painting, Mr. Guy has been connected to Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, RI for his entire professional career in a variety of capacities. The greater part of that has been as the theater's graphic designer, from 1980 to the present, during which he has designed over 250 posters for the theater. He was a scenic artist for Trinity Rep from 1978 to 1982 and created the mural in the theater's lobby in 1983. Mr. Guy is also a painter who has exhibited in Rhode Island, New York City and Arizona, as well as a furniture-maker whose whimsical tables and chairs have been shown in galleries and exhibitions in Rhode Island, New York City, Baltimore and San Francisco. Mr. Guy's contributions to the arts have not been limited to the two dimensional realm. He also created costumes and performed (not necessarily to great acclaim but certainly to great hilarity) in Brian Jones' All-Tap Revue and Adam Bock's Gayboy Nutcrackers. From 1987 to 2005, Mr. Guy was the volunteer managing director and designer for Options , Rhode Island's monthly LGBT newsmagazine. He presently lives in Warwick, RI and Provincetown, MA with his partner of 35 years, Padric Meagher.
Artist's Statement There was a lot of pressure, in my mind at least, for an art school student (RISD '75) to produce art that is pregnant with ideas -- big ideas, new ideas, radical ideas! To my chagrin -- but ultimately to my relief -- I realized that I really did not have any big ideas. At most, I paint pictures that might be about the remarkable confidence we have (and need to have) when we appear semi-clothed or unclothed out-of-doors, despite our vulnerability. (Or is that just me?) Certainly the ancient gods have been often depicted nude or nearly so because they are the supreme expression of self-confidence. Or the pictures might only be about the transient pleasures of water and sand on a sunny day. Life is better at the beach or next to a pool.

Padric Meagher: Assemblages
American, born 1948 in Worcester, MA
Artist's Statement In these assemblages, I am attempting to transform everyday objects into something new. I start with things of personal significance -- furniture and clothing inherited from family -- then add and subtract elements, mindful of the object's history and my own. --Padric Meagher

"Lou", 2009, table with artificial flowers, paper and fabric
Phil Smith : Constructions
Born 1946 Elkhart, Indiana Artist's Statement Boxes I have been working for years I call "Birdhouses" because they all have place to enter and a place to land. Beyond that they moved toward abstraction. I use mix media with found materials. In Provincetown I am known as a photographer, but I have been working on those boxes for many years and this will be the first time they will be seen as a group.
